Development Pathway

A highlight for high-performing Richmond United players is the opportunity to train and play with the Richmond Kickers professional team. The Richmond Kickers are a local professional soccer club who compete in USL League One, the third division of professional soccer in the United States. These training & game opportunities range from periodic training sessions to playing actual matches with the pro team!

The experience of training with a pro team allows Richmond United players to challenge themselves against some of the top players in the country. Not only is the bar set higher, but these players also get to experience the dedication and level of performance required to become a professional soccer player.

Since 2015, 12 Richmond United players have trained on a regular basis with the pro team. Seven of those players signed amateur contracts with the Kickers. Five of those seven signees have played in official competition:

  • Drew Romig in 2015 against West Brom Albion
  • Sawyer Gaffney in 2016 at Charlotte Independence
  • Simon Fitch in 2017 against Swansea FC
  • Sam Moore in 2019 against Orlando City B
  • Key White in 2019 against North Texas FC

Key White makes his Kickers debut on July 14, 2019 vs. North Texas.

Sam Moore makes his Kickers debut on July 22, 2019 vs. Orlando City B.
