Richmond United Boys announces addition of Ivan Militar as U15 and U16 Head Coach

Richmond United is proud to announce the hiring of Ivan Militar as the new Richmond United U15 and U16 Head Coach for the 2021/22 season. Militar is slated to join the full-time coaching staff following the departure of Will Bates, who will join MLS side Atlanta United as a Youth Academy Coach.

Militar, originally from Szeged, Hungary, came to the United States to play college soccer at Old Dominion University. After finishing his collegiate career as the captain of the Monarchs and as a 2015 First Team All-Conference USA honoree, he began his coaching career at Beach FC. Between 2017 and 2019, he was the Director of Coaching on the boy's side for the club. In 2019, he decided to join one of the top youth academies in the country and started coaching at Barca Residency Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona. During his time coaching at the residential academy, Ivan had the chance to work with current professional players, such as Bryce Duke (LAFC), Caden Clark (New York RB), and Diego Luna (El Paso Locomotive).

A US Soccer C-License holder, Militar earned a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management and Psychology, a Master's degree in Higher Education Leadership and a doctoral level Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Higher Education from Old Dominion University.

"Will Bates had a tremendous impact on the players and staff of Richmond United over the last two years," commented Sascha Goerres, Richmond United ECNL Boys Director. "His forward-thinking approach, hard work and attention to detail has significantly improved the environment Richmond United provies. We wish Will all the best in the next step of his career while welcoming Ivan to the Richmond United family. We are thrilled that a coach of Ivan's caliber will join our staff to take over where Will has left off."

Bates, who joined Richmond United in 2019, will lead the U16 team to the club's first-ever ECNL National Finals appearance this week in St. Louis before handing over the reins.
