Richmond United U17s qualify for Winter Cup - Draw MLS opponents - Selected as Featured Game at 2019 Development Academy Winter Showcase

Richmond United U17s have qualified for the inaugural US Soccer Development Academy Winter Cup from December 5 to 8 in Bradenton, Florida. Winter Cup is a Cup tournament of the 32 top DA Academies with 8 groups of 4 teams competing in a Champions League Type Group Stage. Only the top team in each group advances to Spring Cup, an eight-team knockout bracket at a single location to crown the DA Cup Champion.

With a 5-1-0 record, Richmond United was able to win the qualifying group against VDA, PA Classics and FC Delco. Richmond United has been drawn into Winter Cup Group F facing three MLS Academies, LA Galaxy, Houston Dynamo and Seattle Sounders.

In addition, Richmond United/s game against Houston Dynamo on 12/6  was selected as one of only 6 featured games during the Winter Cup. The game will be streamed live via US Soccer’s official websites and social media platforms.

Richmond United’s U17 team was selected for a variety of reasons, including embodying the Academy ideals, upholding Academy standards and philosophies, as well as the quality of soccer that the team will Showcase during the event.
 
Richmond United U17s have a successful season so far. Next to qualifying for the Winter Cup, they are currently sitting tied with New York Red Bulls and Baltimore Armor at first in the Atlantic Division.
